Net Neutrality Threatened by Trump Administration

Tom Wheeler, the former chair of the FCC, used his final speech before stepping down to warn businesses and consumers that their choice of cloud services and business applications could be severely limited if the incoming administration strikes down the 2015 open internet order that he and his group put in place. This order positioned the FCC’s net neutrality regulation that prevents Internet Service Providers from slowing or blocking traffic on their networks. This gives all traffic equal opportunity and speed and prevents network favoritism.

Wheeler also showed concern for the Internet of Things, an area of economic growth that is quickly becoming top of mind to many businesses and policy makers in Washington.

“[T]he growth of the internet of things is another area that depends on the open connectivity of those things,” Wheeler said. “If ISPs can decide arbitrarily which IoT device can be connected, or favor their own IoT activity over their competitors, the bright future of IoT dims.” Wheeler continued, “As everything goes into the cloud, the ability to access the cloud free of gatekeepers is essential. If ISPs get to choose which applications and clouds work better than others in terms of access, speed and latency, they will control the cloud future,”.

Wheeler’s position may not be a surprise now but given his past as a lobbyist for the cable and wireless sector his support of net neutrality may come as a shock.

Bill Wilson, a consultant for Broadband Landing, said, “Wheeler may be underplaying the seriousness of the situation. Net Neutrality is the biggest deal that no one really understands. If consumers and small businesses actually realized what the internet would look like after it was bought and sold by large corporations that was be worried. This would be all that was being talked about.”

Wheeler has the same question many businesses do, namely will Trump dismantle a policy that is clearly working? With republicans openly opposed to net neutrality things do seem dire for the policy.

Wheeler’s speech not only acts as a warning to the incoming administration but also clearly attempts to widen the scope of the net neutrality debate as a whole. Consumer impact of the open internet order is almost always the lead in any discussion of net neutrality but here Wheeler’s focus was on the danger to businesses and their increasing use of cloud computing. Interruption or the slowing of these services is a bit more destructive than a video playing slow. Businesses might be required to completely change back office management systems. A company like Salesforce.com could have their customer base divided between users that have an ISP that allows their traffic and ISP’s that won’t. Situations of this type could be repeated across many business services. If AT&T buys a firm that provides CMS to sales and marketing groups, it is not unthinkable that they would show preference to this firm over others.

Wheeler specifically calls out Verizon and AT&T for the “zero rating” programs that give some companies free access by not charging customers for the data they use. While this isn’t the feared “Fast Lane” net neutrality has been trying to avoid, it may actually be worse.

Wheeler finished his speech with, “It now falls to a new set of regulators, to a new FCC and to those who advocate before it and the Congress to determine the road that they want to take from here,” Wheeler said. “We are at a fork in that road. One path leads forward and the other leads back to relitigating solutions that are demonstrably working.”
While the fork in the road analogy fits, it’s actually a bit more drastic than Wheeler makes it seem. One road leads forward and the other leads back a decade and then off a cliff into a hole filled with alligators.

Game Idea List 1

– Try The Orange Battle – Everyone gets 2 tablespoons, and they hold one in each hand. An orange is balanced on one of them, whilst the other is used to knock everyone else’s oranges off their spoons. The winner is the one left with their orange still balanced on their spoon.

– The Chocolate Game – get at least 4 or 5 people to sit in a circle. In the middle, put a big bar/slab of chocolate on a chopping board. Also in the middle of the circle should be a knife and fork, a hat, a scarf and as chunky and awkward a pair of gloves as you can find (boxing gloves are perfect!) Take it in turns to roll a 6 on a dice, and when you do, put the hat, scarf and gloves on as fast as you can before trying to cut off a piece of chocolate with the knife and fork and eat it – all before the next person rolls a 6. It’s a lot of fun, especially for chocoholics!

Add more/different clothing items to vary the game or make it harder.

– Invent your own game, perhaps by combining two different sports in one – click here to see some great examples

– Cereal Box game – all you need is one cereal box and some scissors. To start with, cut the top of the box off and have everyone take it in turns to try to pick up the box with their teeth only (Rule: only their feet may touch the ground). Once everyone has tried to pick the box up, cut more height off the box and repeat – eliminating anyone who can’t pick the box up any more. You might end up with a couple of people battling it out with a piece of card only a few mm high!

– Prepare a treasure hunt. Use words, riddles, drawing or photos as clues. The hunt could be in the house, the yard or the local area. Even more fun if there are 2 or more teams competing against one another (rather than individuals). Try and be creative as possible – you could even ask friends to be ‘live clues’ and they might require something from the team before giving out the clue (e.g. a sweet/an empty crisp packet, a daisy etc, depending on what could realistically be found). Or maybe they can only answer questions with ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

– How about a photo scavenger hunt?

– Play the card game Spoons.

– Prepare a quiz in advance – this could be general knowledge or based on something you all have in common. A music quiz can be created easily by simply playing the intro/first few seconds of a track and getting people to write the name of the track and the singer(s) down (or it could be a ‘live play’ quiz, with the first person answering correctly out-loud being the winner of a point). There could also be photos of foreign buildings and you have to guess where they are, or close-up photos of things (e.g. household objects) and you have to guess what they are, or perhaps fill-in-the-gap questions using lyrics or quotes.

– A building competition – with two teams competing to build something in the quickest time or build something taller than the other in a time limit. This could be trying to build the tallest tower from just paper and tape, the strongest paper structure, the highest playing card tower, the tallest tower using a limited number of Jenga blocks or balloons, or anything else you can think of.

– A fancy dress sports game – that’s a normal sports game but with everyone dressed up, or a game created around the costume theme. An example could be everyone dressed as zombies and water balloons could represent brains, and you have to collect and smash as many as possible into a bucket. Or people could dress as soldiers, ninjas, jedis and other fighters and it could be a target based game. Or everyone could dress as chefs and have a food fight!

– Spoons – Put a stool upside down and ask 4 players to stand around it (one next to each leg) and make sure they are facing away from the stool. Blindfold the players and give them each a spoon. When the host says ‘Go’, the players take 3 steps away from the stool, turn around and then attempt to place their spoon on a stool leg. The first one to do so wins.

– Everyone is split into pairs, with one person in each pair blindfolded. Quite far away from the starting point, a bucket is placed on the ground or in an awkward place, and inside it is a hat. The aim of the game is to have the ‘seeing’ person in each pair guide the blindfolded person safely to the bucket and be the first to put the hat on. The further the bucket is away, and the more obstacles there are, the more fun it is!

My Top 18 Alternatives To Minecraft – Play Other Great Sandbox Building Games

Are you a Minecraft addict looking for some similar paid or free games? There are many great Minecraft clones and alternatives available and the majority of them are free to play.

I have found the 18 best games like or similar to Minecraft and I hope you find one that you enjoy. They are available for many operating and gaming systems including PC, Mac, Xbox, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Windows Phone.

Minecraft is an extremely fun and popular sandbox building adventure developed by Notch, an indie Swedish developer who is also working on a number of new gaming projects. Notch’s game became an overnight success and has been growing steadily ever since. This strong community, the constant stream of updates, and the ease of modding has created what we know, play and love today.

Minecraft was the start of a new love for the open world game genre for me, and I have since spent the past few years looking for games that offer a similar experience. Thankfully there is no shortage of games to try thanks to the influx of developers who have started developing for the genre after the huge success of Minecraft.

Don’t hesitate to recommend your own favourite games in the comment section at the bottom of this page. I always love discovering new options and I’m always updating this page with my new favourites (which right now is Don’t Starve).

Roblox
Roblox
1 – Roblox (Free)
A Social & Creative Mix Of Gaming

In terms of free to play options and community size Roblox is far ahead of any other option on this page. Its regular content updates, accessibility and ever-growing community make it definitely a worthy game for this list.

Roblox is focused on the social and creative side of things with players able to design their own playable levels to share with others or instead enjoy the thousands of other user created levels. With a community well into the millions the choice of levels and other players creates endless fun combinations.

Players are completely free to stick to maps created by other users or share their own creations (and hopefully reach the most-popular list!) instead. Chances are you will definitely find a map that you enjoy amongst the thousands of different options, which are the strongest advantage of Roblox (you can find FPS, RPG, racing and many others).

Roblox offers complete character customisation through Robux and also offers a premium subscription called The Builder’s Club to give you even more options (although this is definitely not a pre-requisite to enjoy the game) with free players able to get the full experience.

While at launch Roblox had a rocky start and polished user levels were limited, the growth of sandbox games has allowed Roblox to now deliver one of the very best building games on the web and all for a free price tag.

Minetest
Minetest
2 – Minetest (Free)
Free & Runs On Old Computers

Minetest is a great free game. If it didn’t have a different name you would swear it actually was the same game. It is easy to see where Minetest draws its inspiration from (just take a look at the screenshot on the right).

Minetest has been around since 2010 and is slowly being developed to include all of Minecraft’s features. It was created and is constantly developed by celeron55 (so round of applause to him). The game also has large focus on modding, so there are plenty of mods to try to you can even submit your own.

Minetest aims to be simple, stable and portable, this philosophy has allowed it to run smoothly on many old computer systems that cannot handle the demands of Minecraft. This has several trade-offs though, such as less detailed graphics and a lack of survival gameplay elements (currently). As such you should consider the game to be an alternative to the free version of Minecraft but with good modding support.

There isn’t much more to say about Minetest as the gaming experience and gameplay is exactly that of the original Minecraft but with the added benefits of being free and the ability to run on older computers and hardware. Depending on what you are after, this will either be a very attractive option for you or exactly what you aren’t looking for (so read on if that is the case).

3 – Don’t Starve
One of the Spookiest Minecraft Alternatives Yet

Don’t Starve is a recent addition to the now popular open-world survival genre and has already been confirmed for a release on the new PlayStation 4 console upon its release.

Don’t Starve puts players in charge of their own fate as they attempt to survive for as long as they can in a harsh and extremely scary game world. Players start off with nothing and must collect the necessary resources to craft tools—sound familiar?

These tools and resources will help you avoid insanity, hunger and various enemies. If you grow tired of the sandbox style of gameplay you can access a number of adventure levels with varying objectives.

A unique feature of Don’t Starve (and one of my favourites) is that you earn experience for every sandbox game you start, which eventually leads to unlocking additional characters that have their own play-style.

Don’t Starve is currently my favourite of these games and I don’t see it being moved off this page any time soon. I’ve featured it lower on this page because I know a lot of readers are looking for free building alternatives (which isn’t what Don’t Starve offers).
Start Your Eerie Adventure – Grab Your Code for Don’t Starve
Don’t Starve [Online Game Code]
Don’t Starve [Online Game Code]

Don’t Starve is in a league of its own in my opinion. The game combines open world survival with an eerie atmosphere that really draws you in and makes the game all the more realistic.

Explore a dark and twisted game world that is as eerie as it is fun. I can’t recommend it enough. Especially with the recently released multiplayer (Don’t Starve Together) that lets you explore wacky randomly generated game worlds with friends.

Don’t Starve has added something fresh to the genre and just has a quirky feel to it that instantly attracted me and I have no doubt that it will impress you as well.

3 creativity inspiring games to kickstart your workgroup

3 creativity inspiring games to kickstart your workgroup
Updated on February 10, 2015

So you’re the one who loves working in a team? The one who always knew that working in a well organised group is an essential condition for reaching big goals? Or maybe you just got a new assignment at your university/workplace to do some tasks in group and had some serious activity problems at your first meeting? There are actually a lot of things you could do to improve your working group results. In this article I would like to talk about the tricks you could use to wake-up your group members at the start of the meeting.
Managing your time

Before you start thinking about the tricks used for increasing your working group efficiency you should always carefully plan your meeting first if you are the one who leads it. Schedule all your most important tasks, keep in mind that 5 minute breaks are really important for longer then 1.5hours meetings to refresh your minds. But let’s get back to our topic – methods to increase productivity. You will want to use those at the start of your meetings. I like to see them as a brain warm-up techniques. We’ve found out that it is best to give these games somewhere around 20% of your meeting time. So if you planned a 2 hours meeting you should spend 25minutes playing some brain-teasing games. That might sound a bit long for some, but believe me, that’s a worthy longterm investment. A lot of people are skeptic about playing games at all and that’s a really bad attitude in my opinion. Later after using this games playing technique you will find out that your colleagues are not only involving into action much more, but also gets their out-of-the-box thinking improved overall.
3 Classic games

I have decided to only talk about some classic games in this article to give you the basic idea of this technique. Later you will want to do some more research on the internet or in your local bookstores. There are lots of games you could use here.

1.) NAME/CITY/ANIMAL/THING

Just keep in mind that the size of your group will directly impact the time required to play this game. It’s best played in a group of 5-8 players. Everyone should have a sheet of paper and a pencil. Let them draw a table structured like the one in a picture shown. All members sits in circle formation and someone starts a game by naming a random letter, for example ‘Z’. The objective of this game is to be as creative as you could by writing a name, city, animal and a thing starting with this letter and keeping in mind that you will only get points if no one else in your group won’t have the same word written. The first who writes all the words shouts “That’s it!” and starts counting to 10. After the count is over, the first round is over also. Everyone checks if no one had the same word written, if someone did, you do not get any points, same thing happens if you don’t have anything written at all in that cell. You only get 1 point for unique word. You’re good to start the second round of the game now. The game continues until all members had a chance to choose a letter. In the end, total number of points are calculated and the one with the biggest value becomes a great champion of this creativity inspiring competition.

2.) 5 WORDS SENTENCE

Everyone ready with sheets of paper and pencils again. Think of 5 letters you will use here. For instance: B A M S A. These are the first letters of your five words sentence. Order everyone to think of as much as possible sentences containing five words starting with letters B A M S A in order(Baboon ate my shiny apple!). Give them limited time, 5 minutes will fit well here. Now if you had your meeting time planned well you could leave those papers for your 5 minute break later, if you planned one of course. This is gonna be a great relaxation time for your group members to read them while on break, you will find out that some of those sentences are really hilarious. If you don’t have a break planned, then just read them on the spot. Have fun.

3.) THINK OF A PURPOSE

This game is so much loved by the employers in creative industry all over the world to give on job interviews. Obviously a pencil and a sheet of paper required again! Usually this one is a timed event also, so you might want to give 5 minutes or so, again. Or you could play this game till someone hits a fixed amount of purposes. To start the game you have to think of an any object. A carrot for example. Now tell your colleagues to think of as much as possible purposes of a carrot(could be a substitute for a police baton?). Let the game begin here. After the time is up or someone hits a fixed amount of purposes it’s up to you again to read the results on the spot or leave it for a break.

Crazy Kitty Party Time

Kitty party is a fun get-together for particularly the women. Women gather at one place and play games to enjoy themselves. Sometimes these games are adult games too. Adult games can be risky to play within members. However, it completely depends on the understanding within the group that makes it possible to have fun.

One of the games that can be played is ‘Feeding time’. In this, all the women sit face to face around the party and hold a baby’s battle with a drink in it. A party can choose any drink of their choice. Next step is when everybody has to take a sip. After this, the second team member has to approach the other team member and without touching the bottle, has to take another sip from the bottle. It completely depends on their coordination and reflex.

Another women’s game that is very famous abroad is ‘body-painting’. This game is not too important in the Indian kitty party scene as it hinders our belief towards the culture. Body painting competitions can be creative and we can add a little tinge of excitement when played amongst adults.

The society has accepted these funny crazy games played amongst women, as they too need to relax and enjoy from their hectic schedule of life. Generally, women keeping their interests in mind design these games.

Another very funny game played within women is cooking games. Women come up with various cooked food item that do not fall under any recipe. These games have variations among sweet dishes and otherwise. While playing these games, women learn different recipes too that increases the potential of a woman as a homemaker.

Fashion games, are arranged exclusively for women nowadays. Selection criteria vary under different situations. The competition is how well the subject dressed. Judges are pre-decided. The experience criteria in the field of fashion become the deciding factor for selection of judges. They are learned people from the fashion industry.

The marketers have recognized the need for online games among women too. There are many websites promoting women games on the internet. Games like virtual doll games, puzzle games, are present over the internet and they are gaining increasing popularity. Women have now become tech savvy and urban women spend a considerable time on the internet. This is the main source of income for people who build online games for women.

Pictureka Game

Hunting for hidden images within a bigger image is now much more fun – thanks to Pictureka! The goal of the game is so simple, “Find It Fast, Find It First!” The one who follows this rule with fluidity for all rounds can easily win the game. But remember though that there are further rules to accomplish for one to become this contagious picture hunting game champ.

Most Pictureka sets are composed of a game board with 3 by 3 tiles. This huge square is large enough to allow 2 or more players to play the game at the same time even they are not in teams. A colored dice is also included in the package. Each color in the dice will dictate the color of the mission card to be drawn by the player. To win the game, one has to accomplish 10 missions or points.

This already visually stimulating game set is now made more interesting. The new Pictureka Kubes is now available. This one features the images now rolled into 18 interchangeable cube halves, which is equivalent to 9 blue and 9 white figures. It also comes with 1 game grid, 40 cards and instructions manual.

This set also has three basic missions the players have to fulfill. The first one tells the player to split up the cubes and search for pictures on the set. The second tells everyone to search all visible sides of the cubes without laying a finger on them. And the third one demands the player to pick blue or red cubes, and then aim to move all one’s team’s cubes to other side of the game grid first.

Another twist to this totally majestic game is its Flipper Edition. This one features a 3-D penguin figure that flips small game tiles from its rotating base in a circular pattern onto the game table. The players would then have to find the drawings on the tiles that match the mission cards before the penguin will release more tiles on the table.

And for those who can’t get enough of this game even when traveling, the right one for you and your whole family is the Pictureka Card Game. This one has 78 picture cards, 32 mission cards and instructions. The games anyone can play with the cards are 8-Away, Alphabetti, Matchureka! and Cow’s Creative Combo.

If you think you have a keen eye for details and can find things in a flash, then this is the right game for you.

Board Games Involving The Body

While a great deal of board games will challenge the mind, which is by no means a bad thing, most of them will simply have a player sit in a chair and exercise their brain power. This is the classic format for board games, having a group of people sitting around a table, participating in the competition. This isn’t always optimal, though, for often groups of people will generate a great deal of energy and finding a place to spend that energy in a healthy way is important. Therefore, in cases like these, finding board games which allow players to get up and move their bodies often can be of great benefit.

Perhaps one of the most famous games which involves the entire body would be the game Twister. This is a large game, with a mat which spreads out on the floor and acts as the board. The bodies of the players will become the pieces. The board is laid out with four rows and four columns made of colored circles. Players begin the game standing over this board, until a special spinner is spun.

The spinner is marked with 16 different combinations, between body parts and colors. Whatever the spinner lands on, whether it be the right or left hand, right or left foot, and blue, red, yellow, or green, the player has to move the corresponding body part to the matching color. Play continues until players begin to slip and fall, no longer able to continue moving their body to the correct places. When one player remains, they are declared as the winner as they were best able to keep their body moving in the correct way. This game is a full body experience, as it gets people up and moving, laughing and enjoying both the spending of energy and the competition that their friends provide.

Charades can be another game which involves the entire body of the players participating. This game, which forces players to act out a series of clues without speaking, often makes players behave in strange ways, trying to get their partners to guess what they are attempting to act out. These clues can range from examples such as different animals, to movie titles, to situations. Often, the clues are things which would not immediately spring to mind, meaning that the person acting out these clues will have to be incredibly creative. The way to perform this task is often to use the entire body to act out a series of events which can make the player guess the intentions of the actor.

The game of Charades can be fun because it involves both activity from the mind and the body. Everyone will generally get a turn to act out their clues, meaning that everyone will have an opportunity to use their bodies in an expressive way. The game is an exercise for the mind as well, watching clues visually and trying to guess their meaning. A popular party game for years, Charades can be a great way to spend the evening without confining the group to sitting around a table.

Creative Games For Kids On The Internet

There are many creative games for kids available today in a wide variety of formats and places. Creative games for kids are just as essential as intellectual games as they develop the right side of the human brain. This is the side that isn’t logical but rather creative, intuitive, etc. Being creative will lead to a better-rounded individual as they grow into adulthood.

Children today are luckier than their parents probably were, as the worldwide Internet has extended its reach and availability. The Internet has opened up a whole new avenue of new and exciting opportunities to parents and kids.

Creative games for kids on the Internet are much more interesting for the average kid, as they promote movement and the ability to interact with what’s happening. This provides great encouragement to the child to continue playing and being creative. In any creative field, from the artistic to the musical, you can find creative games for kids on the Internet.

These games range from the very simplistic, ideal for the infant, to much more involving and interesting, suitable for the older kid. Artistic games range from filling in blank spaces on already drawn pictures or cartoons, to the ability to make their own unique pieces of art. Musical games range from the simplistic hitting of drums to making your own musical composition.

However, I would not be responsible, if I did not give a word of warning. Sadly, not all that is available on the Internet is suitable or desirable for kids. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as looking at a website and seeing if it looks like it’s geared towards a young person. Even some that seem aimed at kids are in fact not. Bad people will maliciously put things on their creative games for kids such as graphic violence, dirty language, etc. As a parent you must always keep an eye on what your kids are doing on the Internet. Internet blocking software can aid your efforts in keeping your children safe as they use websites.

One of the advantages for parents is that, through creative games for kids, they can try many different things from painting a watercolor picture to learning how to play the piano, without parents having to outlay the expensive cost of the actual objects or materials needed. This is an easy and quick way to determine if they have the inclination to pursue it further. Without a doubt, creative games for kids are an extremely worthwhile investment of their time.

Iphone Game Development: Bringing Creative Games To Iphone Users

The already popular gaming industry has received a shot in the arm with innovative games finding a new platform in smart phones. And playing a leading role in this migration or rather extension of gaming platform is Apple iPhone. This smart phone from Apple has raised the standard and utility of mobile phones to a new level. With features of a computing device, users can do a lot of things on this mobile. Loaded with numerous web applications and multimedia features, iPhone is really a smart phone. And one of the best features of this phone is innovative and creative games. Hundred of individual game developers and agencies are engaged in iPhone 3Gs games development just to make sure that iPhone users are never left in wanting for entertainment.

Apple on its part also makes sure that it taps the potential of the best game developers in the world. As such, it has a policy in place of supporting third party developers. To potential and encouraging game developers, Apple issues a software development kit (SDK) which contains guidelines and support for these developers. Using the SDK, individual freelancers as well as game development companies developed games for iPhones. If the games received green signals from Apple, these games find their way on Apple store. Some of the games are available for free download while others are charged.

A game developer has to make use of both technical and non-technical assistance during the development process. Mac OS X operating system, which is developed and marketed Apple, is used during iPhone game programming. He also uses multiple programming languages, technologies, and frameworks during the game development process so that end product is received well by the iPhone users. However the most important part of iPhone game development is the game play or the entire game plot. Only creative minds can give creative products and iPhone games are also products of some of the most creative minds in the industry. Game development is also a costly activity and the current trend is to outsource the development process to an offshore game development company.
